Who should you start with?
For an easy starting point, consider Ichigo. For a team built around critical hits, compare Toshiro with Rukia and Rangiku. These are MeowDB’s kit-based launch recommendations, updated October 29—not a measured damage ranking or a PvP ladder.
Aizen deserves a separate decision: his entry attack bonus comes with longer teammate Switch cooldowns. A powerful individual kit does not automatically fit a frequent-switch team.
Launch recommendation snapshot
| Starting plan | Character | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Direct attacker | Ichigo Kurosaki | Arts 1 attack triggers |
| Critical-hit attacker | Toshiro Hitsugaya | Critical-hit consistency |
| Critical support | Rukia Kuchiki | Status ailments on the enemy |
| Switch support | Rangiku Matsumoto | Returning to Standby |
| Extended field time | Sosuke Aizen | Teammate Switch cooldown penalty |
Four-star tier list: compare two launch rankings
The table compares the four-star launch rankings published by Gacha.gg and Pro Game Guides, checked October 30, 2026. These are the publishers’ opinions, not our combat test results. Neither column should be treated as a dedicated, measured PvP ranking. Character variants and progression matter.
| Character (four-star version) | Gacha.gg | Pro Game Guides |
|---|---|---|
| Ichigo Kurosaki | S | S |
| Sosuke Aizen | S | S |
| Toshiro Hitsugaya | S | S |
| Rukia Kuchiki | A | S |
| Rangiku Matsumoto | A | A |
| Mayuri Kurotsuchi | B | A |
| Yasutora Sado | B | C |
| Byakuya Kuchiki | B | A |
| Yoruichi Shihoin | C | B |
| Bambietta Basterbine | C | A |
| Grimmjow Jeagerjaques | C | B |
| Renji Abarai | C | B |
| Orihime Inoue | C | S |
| Uryu Ishida | C | C |
Both lists put Ichigo, Aizen and Toshiro in S. Orihime is the clearest disagreement: C in one list and S in the other. That disagreement makes a universal “best team” claim unhelpful. Decide whether your current fights need more damage or sustain before investing.
How to use the rankings
Gacha.gg considers damage, teammate buffs, status effects and team fit. Pro Game Guides also discusses chains and cooldowns. Their criteria do not produce identical results. Our starter shortlist favors a trigger you can understand and a support that fits it; it does not average letters into a new score.
Check rarity, the exact variant, ability progression and battle mode before spending resources. An unlisted variant inherits no rank from its name. For an example of why conditions matter, read the Aizen kit notes: his entry bonus also delays teammates’ Switch cooldowns.
A three-question team check
- Which character will spend most of the time attacking?
- Can the other two reliably trigger effects that help that character?
- Does the plan require frequent switches, or time on the field?
This is our editorial comparison framework. It is not a simulated damage result. Revisit the shortlist after balance changes, new characters or changes to the mode you play.
